The Barnyard Wargaming Mat was designed to make Warhammer 40,000 easier to understand, teach, and play.
After years of playing, watching competitive games, and creating Warhammer content, we found that one of the biggest barriers for newer players was understanding the battlefield at a glance. Competitive Warhammer can move quickly, and without a clear understanding of distances, deployment zones, and objectives, it can become difficult to follow.
This mat was created as a functional tool first. It provides visual clarity while maintaining a clean, professional battlefield aesthetic for both casual and competitive play.

Barnyard Wargaming is a two-person team run by Jack and Adela.
The mat design was born from Jack's ambition as a passionate Warhammer 40,000 player and Tournament Organiser. He envisioned creating a clearer and more intuitive way to play and explain competitive Warhammer. Adela then took that vision and brought it to life, designing it and perfecting it.
The goal was simple: create a battlefield that helps players understand what is happening without distracting from the game itself.

The current rules contain 45 different deployment possibilities, and these are intentionally not permanently printed onto the mat so that the battlefield remains flexible.
